The basic premise. To start, here's the premises, as explained by the official press release about the new show:

In Victorian England, the young and beautiful Alice (Sophie Lowe) tells a tale of a strange new land that exists on the other side of a rabbit hole. An invisible cat, a hookah smoking caterpillar and playing cards that talk are just some of the fantastic things she’s seen during this impossible adventure. Surely this troubled girl must be insane and her doctors aim to cure her with a treatment that will make her forget everything.  Alice seems ready to put it all behind her, especially the painful memory of the genie she fell in love with and lost forever — the handsome and mysterious Cyrus (Peter Gadiot). But deep down Alice knows this world is real and just in the nick of time, the sardonic Knave of Hearts (Michael Socha) and the irrepressible White Rabbit (John Lithgow) arrive to save her from a doomed fate. Together, the trio will take a tumble down the rabbit hole to this Wonderland where nothing is impossible.

Meet the cast. Meet the cast, including Alice, her genie love Cyrus, the White Rabbit, and the Knave of Hearts, here.

It's about "women empowerment." The show fits in with ABC's Thursday lineup, which the ABC Powers That Be explain is all about empowered women. (Meredith Grey, Olivia Pope, etc.) You can expect Alice to be quite kick-ass.

It's not actually Victorian England. Confused about how Alice's story lines up with OUAT, time wise? Here's a clue: Her Victorian England is not our Victorian England it's a fictional version, kind of like Dr. Whale's black and white historical world.

Jafar is coming! Lost alum Naveen Andrews will be playing the iconic villain, and it sounds like we'll see a fair amount of his world.

More Cora! The writers expect that we'll see more of Cora (who was the Queen of Hearts in Wonderland, after all), at least during flashbacks.

Other characters. We should also see the Cheshire Cat, a "feisty" young girl (young Alice?), the Caterpillar, and more.

Will they re-cast the Mad Hatter? There were rumors that the Mad Hatter was going to be re-cast because Sebastian Stan is very busy, but never fear: While the writers continue to hope they'll be able to make Sebastian's schedule work for a return one day, they certainly won't re-cast him if it doesn't work out.

Premiere title. The premiere is called "Down the Rabbit Hole."
