Once Upon a Time in Wonderland went down the rabbit hole on October 10, but unfortunately, they didn’t have much company with them. In comparison to their mothership show, OUAT, and their big debut in October 2011 — a 4.0 in the coveted 18-49 demo and nearly 13 million viewers — Wonderland only garnered a 1.7 in the demo and 5.7 million viewers.

While they were up against The Vampire Diaries, The Big Bang Theory, The X Factor, and NBC’s comedy lineup, it’s still disappointing that with all of the promotion ABC gave them (and the magic of the original show) that it wasn’t a huge success.

Notably, this is not a good time for any TV program — especially on ABC. Over the past few years, all shows have been canceled in that time slot: Last Resort, Zero Hour, Charlie’s Angels, Missing, and more. It was doomed from the start in many ways.

The ratings aren’t completely dismal, and hopefully it will pick up with DVR ratings for this week and in general as the show progresses. If people fall in love with Alice the way they have with Snow White on Once Upon a Time, the show can find its stride. Until then, the teams behind both shows will have to find creative ways to sustain the OG show and its spin-off to go up against juggernauts like TVD, Big Bang, and X Factor.
