We love all of Once Upon a Time’s many, many mysteries, but sometimes it seems like each episode introduces more questions than answers. To that end, we’ve tackled the 10 biggest questions from this week’s episode in order to make sense of everything that happened.
Here are 10 burning questions from Season 3, Episode 4: “Nasty Habits.”
1. How did Hook know about Bae’s lair?
We saw Hook and young Neal bond in Neverland before Neal was nabbed by the Lost Boys, but clearly Hook and Neal kept in touch after that. Is that how Hook knew where Neal’s cave is? And how much contact did they have before Neal eventually left Neverland? By the way, we loved seeing the map Neal made out of that coconut. He was quite the little McGyver.
2. Will Emma ultimately choose Hook or Neal?
Okay, so we just might be back on Team Swanfire after Emma revealed this week that she never stopped loving Neal, along with Neal’s excitement when he realized Emma is close by. Swoon! Still, Neal better hurry up and find Emma, since we are finding her moments with Hook this season to be mighty adorable as well. Translation: Don’t make us choose.
3. What exactly happened between Peter Pan and Gold?
We now know that Peter and Gold somehow knew each other a long time ago, and then Pan betrayed him. Was Gold somehow the first Lost Boy, before the group even had that name? And Pan keeps reminding us of Gold’s troubled relationship with his dad, so we’re beginning to wonder if Pan did something to Gold’s dad. Or maybe Pan and Gold are related?
4. Does Hook have a plan to heal David’s wound?
Hook’s comment about there always being hope for David’s wound makes us wonder if he has some kind of risky plan up his pirate-shirt sleeve. All along, we’ve assumed that Emma’s magic will help save David from the Dreamshade arrow, but now we have faith in Hook, too. Either way, they better hurry, as David is clearly falling apart.
5. How did Hook get off Neverland?
Pan seems like someone who’s a huge fan of corrupt bargains, so we have a feeling there’s more to the story of how Hook himself got out of Neverland the first time. Hook is definitely the type to put his own interests before everyone else’s, so we wouldn’t be surprised if somehow his exit from Neverland had something to do with him aiding Pan’s quest to find Henry.
6. Did Peter Pan let Neal leave Neverland because of Henry?
Pan sorta has a one-track mind when it comes to finding Henry and bringing the magic back. So while it was shocking to learn that Neal might not have actually escaped from Neverland of his own volition, it might make sense that Peter needed Neal to leave so he could meet Emma and create Henry. Or did Peter have a different motive in mind for letting Neal go?
7. Is Henry really Gold’s downfall — or is this about Gold being the Dark One?
Gold seems pretty concerned about the prophecy that Henry will be his downfall. But because prophecies tend to be a little bit off, we have a feeling that maybe Henry won’t actually cause Gold’s death but will lead to him losing his powers. And that wouldn’t be so bad, right? Or maybe Pan created the prophecy himself to ensure that Henry stays in Neverland.
8. How will Neal eventually learn to trust Gold?
The episode had no shortage of sob-worthy moments (that Snow-Charming scene!), but perhaps the toughest was Gold realizing that Neal used the squid ink on him. So when will Neal ever trust Gold? We’re guessing they’re both going to need to team up to thwart Pan, so they better start seeing eye-to-eye ASAP.
9. Is Rumbelle on the rocks?
One of the tougher things about this season taking place mostly in Neverland is that we’re kinda being deprived of our mandatory Rumbelle fix. Luckily, Belle has been making adorable visits to Gold in vision form, although things got less cute when Gold told Belle to hit the road this week. We can’t imagine they won’t soon patch things up, but we’re not loving the bumps in the road.
10. Are you ready for that Emma-Hook kiss?
Next week is the week we’ve been waiting for, people! All this sexual tension between Emma and Hook that you can cut with a poison arrow will finally lead to the two kissing in next week’s episode. But will the kiss lead to more? We can’t wait to find out.
