Ever since we met Neal’s fiancée, Tamara, we’ve been wary. After last night’s ep (Season 2, Episode 18: “Selfless, Brave, and True”), we know for sure that she is the mysterious “Her” Greg Mendell has on speed dial and that they’re collectively up to no good! What more can we expect from the enigmatic Tamara? And could she be a fairy tale character? We aim to find out!
The Grandmother Clue
We don’t know much about Tamara’s past. She lied about the cancer. She lied about meeting Neal by accident. The photograph she carries of her and her grandmother seems to be the only tangible clue we have to Tamara’s past. Is Tamara’s grandmother still alive? Is she someone we know from our fairy tales? We’ve guessed before that, if Tamara is a fairy tale character, she could be Pocahontas, or perhaps a character from Neverland. The grandmother clue doesn’t shed any new light on a possible fairy tale past, but it does give us some things to think about...
“Her” Magical Quest
Such as, if Tamara didn’t use the magical cure she took from August for herself, then who did she use it on? If Tamara is not the one who is sick, could it be her grandmother? We know Greg/Owen‘s frankly legitimate reasons for wanting revenge on Storybrooke, but why does Tamara care? Does he have a connection to the town like Greg does? Right now, it seems like her magical quest is broader than Storybrooke itself. She told the Dragon that she had searched the entire world for magic. What is she looking for? And does she have a super-secret scientific lab at her disposal?
A lab that could hypothetically create a taser that works on wooden people and partially-transformed magic men, for example? On viewing, we weren’t sure what to make of the powerful taser Tamara wields, but OUAT writer Jane Espenson tweeted that the weapon is “not a taser!” She seems pretty sure about that, which makes us think the non-taser could have magical properties. Tamara told the Dragon that she had analyzed his cure with the best scientific equipment. Is she some kind of evil magician-scientist (she and Dr. Whale can start a club)? We hope so!
What do you think Tamara’s deal is? Let us know in the comments below!
