Were you bothered by the revelation of Rumplestiltskin (Robert Carlyle) and Cora's (Barbara Hershey) past romance on Once Upon a Time Season 2, Episode 16: "The Miller's Daughter"? While we can't make that relationship more palatable for those who found it creepy, we do have good news for Rumbelle shippers: You shouldn't see this as something that impacts Rumple and Belle's (Emilie de Ravin) relationship.

As writer Jane Espenson, who penned the episode, explained to a fan who wondered how Belle would feel about Rumple/Cora, "Belle knows that she's not likely to be his first love — just the best one."

Jane also noted that Cora's kiss wasn't enough to break the Dark One curse on Rumple, while Belle's kiss was. "Ergo, something is special / deeper / magical about the relationship with Belle."

And in case you thought Rumple asking Cora if she had once loved him was an indication that he still has feelings for her, Jane clarified, "He clearly doesn't still love Cora!"
