We love all of Once Upon a Time’s many, many mysteries, but sometimes it seems like each episode introduces more questions than answers. To that end, we’ve tackled the 10 biggest questions from this week’s episode in order to make sense of everything that happened.
Here are 10 burning questions from part one of the Once Upon a Time Season 2 finale, Episode 21: “Second Star to the Right.”
1. Who is in charge of Greg and Tamara’s “home office”?
We have a feeling that the person running Greg and Tamara’s mission is someone we’ve met before — so could it be Wendy Darling, who clearly doesn’t like magic? We also know that Whale’s land is all about science, so it might be someone from there — or what about King George, who is always up to something?
2. Is Neal still alive — and where did he go?
Why is it that Emma and Neal had to wait until just before Neal disappears to share their “I love yous”? So we highly doubt Neal is actually dead — although that gun wound doesn’t bode well — but that doesn’t make the mystery of where he went any easier. Maybe we’ll see him show up in Neverland again? We have a feeling Neal can crow with the best of them.
3. Is Greg’s dad really dead?
Regina wrapped the mystery of Greg’s dad up a bit too quickly. So we bet we’ll still be learning more about Kurt’s whereabouts. Sure, Greg found some bones, but Regina has probably buried all sorts of people around town. Maybe Kurt is in charge of the “home office,” and he’s keeping his identity a secret from Greg so that Greg continues to fight against magic?
4. Are Hook and Neal pals?
Neal didn’t exactly gush about Hook when Emma asked if he knew the guy earlier this season — so what is his relationship with Hook like? Clearly, Hook saved his life — but we can’t imagine Neal was too thrilled to learn about Hook’s relationship with his mom. Long story short, we’re not shocked that Neal wasn’t planning to make Hook his best man.
5. Will Hook get a final showdown with Gold this season?
Hook seems close to joining the good guys, after he backs out of torturing Regina. (Yes, it would have been nice if he’d informed someone of Regina’s whereabouts, but whatever.) So will he finally get his crocodile this season, or might he be letting bygones be bygones? And will he make his move on Emma, given that Neal is indisposed at the moment?
6. Why is Tamara trying to eliminate magic?
Greg has a legitimate reason to not be fond of Regina — especially if she indeed killed his father — but why is Tamara involved in this anti-magic quest? We can only assume we’ll be learning more about her backstory, as we have a hunch that her previously mentioned grandma will play a role in why she’s so opposed to magic.
7. Where else did Greg and Tamara snuff out magic?
Greg and Tamara inform Regina that this isn’t the first time they’ve gotten rid of magic from a town — so where else have they been? Maybe they recently found a way to reach Neverland, Oz, or Wonderland? Or else perhaps they just talk a big game.
8. Will Gold kill Henry?
Just when we think Gold has turned over a new leaf and would never consider harming Henry, he goes and gets us worried again. Will Lacey switch back to Belle in time to stop encouraging Gold to off Henry and reunite with his dark side? Because at the moment, Lacey is kinda freaking us out.
9. Why does Lacey want immortality?
Does Lacey have a specific reason for wanting immortality — or does she just have a general zest for life? We can’t help thinking it’s fishy (and no, that’s not a reference to this episode’s “sardines” comment) that Lacey’s interest in immortality comes during the same episode when we meet Wendy and learn about Neverland — a place that in fact makes you immortal. Hmm.
10. Will we meet Ariel in the finale?
Wendy mentions seeing mermaids in Neverland, which reminds us of the comment Regina made earlier this season about needing help with a certain mermaid. So if we’re in fact headed to Neverland in the finale, might we be meeting Ariel there? Or maybe the mermaid whom Regina needed help with was the one from Splash? The Splash mermaid was pretty feisty...
