In this sneak peek from Once Upon a Time Season 2, Episode 3: “Lady of the Lake,” (airing October 14) Cora (Barbara Hershey) comes dangerously close to convincing Emma (Jennifer Morrison) that she’s one of the good guys. Luckily, Mary Margaret/Snow White (Ginnifer Goodwin) regains consciousness just in time to educate her daughter on the evil lurking behind Cora’s gentle tone.

As we’ve seen from previews, Emma and Mary Margaret have been captured by Mulan (Jamie Chung) and Sleeping Beauty (Sarah Bolger) in present-day Fairytale Land. Now, they’re in an underground cell with Cora. Cora explains where they are to Emma (although we’re not sure we trust much of what she says): “A little island our captors like to think of as their haven.” She goes on, “The world’s dangerous. What’s left of it anyway.”

Snow quickly warns Emma, “As bad as you think Regina [Lana Parrilla] is, this woman is worse.” But it might be too late. Emma already wants to give Cora a chance.
