Once Upon a Time Season 2, Episode 9: “Queen of Hearts” finally solved one of the show's many mysterious: Who is the titular Queen of Hearts?

Those of you who (like us), subscribed to the "Cora (Barbara Hershey) is the Queen of Hearts" theory were totally right!

In the flashback portion of this episode, we learned that Hook (Colin O’Donoghue) went in search of someone who could help him kill Rumplestiltskin (Robert Carlyle). Regina (Lana Parrilla) offered to help him achieve his goal after she enacted the curse — if he killed Cora.

It turns out Cora landed in Wonderland after Regina pushed her through the portal. Is it any surprise she quickly took over?

Then she let him go, and then persuaded him to side with her by promising to help him enact his revenge herself. Regina enchanted Hook's hook so that he could rip out Cora's heart and then sent him through the hat portal to Wonderland. Their plan went awry, because Cora doesn't keep her heart in her chest (clever!). Instead, she grabbed Hook's heart, and therefore was able to learn about Regina's plans. Then she let him go, and persuaded him to side with her by promising to help him enact his revenge herself.
