How soon is “soonish”? Two episodes? Three? Anyone?
Once Upon a Time Season 2 is back in business this Sunday for Episode 10, “The Cricket Game,” but over the winter break, OUAT co-creator Adam Horowitz tweeted a tiny bit of dish about an upcoming character: "Ethan Embry coming on #OnceUponATime soonish. #mildholidayspoilers."
Good! Soonish is better than laterish, even if we still don’t know exactly what’s going on with Ethan’s character. On December 27, Vancity Filming posted pics of Ethan on the set. The photos just show him milling around, not with any other identifiable actors, so it's still hard to tell what he might be doing — other than bundling up in the cold Vancouver weather.
Jennifer Morrison (Emma Swan) recently talked to TVLine about Ethan’s character: “[All we] know is he’s an outsider, he is a stranger and he is not a fairytale character ... at least he’s not someone anyone recognizes from Fairytale Land.”
It's possible he's the titular outsider of Episode 11, "The Outsider." Perhaps he just stumbles into Storybrooke somehow? (As in, crashes his car when he enters the town?) Do you think he’s a friend of Neal's — Neal being Henry’s (Jared Gilmore) father, who lives in the “outside” world of non-magical people? One guess for Ethan's character was Peter Pan, but The Powers That Be shot down the idea of Peter Pan showing up this season. (Next season? Who knows...) It's possible he comes from Dr. Whale’s (David Anders) world, which is not the same as Fairytale Land, which is why Prince Charming (Josh Dallas) didn't even recognize him at first.
So ... none of this really helps us decode the mystery of Ethan Embry’s character on OUAT. But at least we know we won't have to wait too long to get the scoop!
