Rumplestiltskin (Robert Carlyle) is a man of many layers. We can never be sure what’s going on under the surface with that one. That’s why we’re so suspicious of Rumple’s seeming turn to the dark side in last night’s ep (Season 2, Episode 19: “Lacey”), and Once Upon a Time co-creator Adam Horowitz mixed message tweets are not helping. Check out Adam’s tweets below and help us decide if Rumple has truly given up hope of redemption...
Robert Carlyle does an amazing job in creating a character that always seems one bad decision away from total villainy. This is why a decision like the one he made in Sunday night’s episode — to give up on wooing Lacey and beat up her make out partner instead — is so believable. Couple that with this tweet from OUAT co-creator Adam Horowitz that confirms a fan’s theory that Rumple “had lost all hope and, at least for a moment, chose wrong,” and we’re pretty sure the Dark One is back.
On the other hand, Rumple is nothing if not committed (the man spent a few hundred years searching for his son), and he still has Bae’s opinion to worry about. He’s a resourceful guy and we wonder if, knowing that the nice guy routine was not working with Lacey, he decided to try a different dating technique. We’re not the only ones who considered this. One fan relayed this theory to Adam on Twitter — that Rumple was “put[ting] on a show” for Lacey — and Adam said, “yes.” Which one is it, Adam?! “Lost all hope” or “Putting on a show”? We need to know!
Do you think Rumple has truly turned evil or do you think he is playing evil to make Lacey fall in love with him? Vote in our poll and let us know your theories in the comments below!
