Thanks to clever fans and spoilers, we know a fair amount of what happens in the Once Upon a Time Season 2 premiere (Season 2, Episode 1: “Broken”). But we didn’t know just how dramatic the opening moments would be — until now.

If you recall the ending of the Season 1 finale (Season 1, Episode 22: “A Land Without Magic”), the purple cloud of magic swept across Storybrooke, where it eventually reached Mary Margaret (Ginnifer Goodwin) and David (Josh Dallas). The pair looked frightened and clung to each other, bracing for the purple smoke monster. So what happens next?

“On set, Goodwin and Dallas re-create their characters' terrified end-of-season embrace,” reports TV Guide. “As the smoke dissipates, they recognize Emma Swan [Jennifer Morrison]  and Henry [Jared Gilmore] as their daughter and grandson... [The scene] soon widens to include Ruby [Meghan Ory], Granny [Beverley Elliott], The Blue Fairy [Keegan Connor Tracy] and all seven dwarfs.”

Clearly, this will be an emotional opening scene, and a dramatic way to begin Season 2. We’ve been waiting for the moment Mary Margaret and David would recognize each other in Storybrooke, and get over all their awkward romantic hesitation already.

We can’t wait!

Once Upon a Time Season 2 premieres on September 30, 2012 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
