Once Upon A Time has shed frustratingly little light onto the identity of the mysterious “Her,” the person outsider Greg Mendell  (Ethan Embry) keeps calling to share his discoveries about Storybrooke and its magical residents. But it seems that won’t be the case forever! OUAT co-creator Adam Horowitz tweeted Monday that we will discover who “Her” is by the end of the season. In the meantime, here are our four best guesses as to who she might be...

Wendy
The OUAT writers have acknowledge that Peter Pan will play a part in the show, but insist he will not be in Season 2. With the possibility of a visit to Neverland on the horizon, we couldn’t help but wonder if they are trying to throw us off the trail. After all, who better to play an adult Peter than the forever boyish Ethan Embry?

The way Greg speaks with “Her” on the phone, calling her “honey,” implies a romantic partner. Since we’re fans of the film Hook, we can get on board with grown-up versions of Peter and Wendy making an appearance in Storybrooke. How awesome would it be to see Wendy eventually come to town and she and Peter facing off with arch nemesis Hook (Colin O’Donoghue)? We don’t think that pirate ship set has gotten nearly enough play.

The Princess and the Pea
We’ve already theorized that, given his nomenclature, Greg could be based on Gregor Mendel, the father of genetics. Mendel is known for his work with pea plants. We like this particularly theory because then it follows that the “Her” on the phone could be his “Princess and the Pea.”

“The Princess and the Pea” is a Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale. It tells the story of a princess whose royal status is tested by her sensitivity to one tiny pea beneath countless mattresses. We’re not sure how this character could come into play on OUAT (we’ve already got one diva princess in the form of Aurora), but we’d be intrigued to find out.

Dorothy
The OUAT showrunners told Entertainment Weekly that they have “been talking about Oz since day one,” which implies he will eventually make an appearance. Greg doesn’t seem to be familiar with Storybrooke’s use of magic and was not part of the curse, which implies he is from another land. We think that makes him a good candidate for the Wizard. With the introduction of Oz, comes the possibility for a whole host of other characters. Dorothy and the Wizard are not usually portrayed as romantic, but OUAT has been known to tweak classic stories for their own use (i.e. Rumplestiltskin as the Beast). If the Wizard of Oz is in town, that means Dorothy might not be far behind...

Hercules
We still haven’t heard the voice of “Her,” which means Greg’s “honey” could just as easily be a man as a woman. Perhaps “Her” is not a pronoun, but a nickname. We love the Disney film Hercules and would be delighted to see its title character make an appearance. We’ll get started on a list of actors we wouldn’t mind seeing strut around Storybrooke in a lionskin.
