Did you bet the farm on seeing Ruth (Gabrielle Rose) again on Once Upon a Time? Do you even remember her from Season 1? She’s Mama Charming — which also makes her grandmother to Emma Swan (Jennifer Morrison), and great-grandma to Henry (Jared Gilmore).
In Season 1, Episode 6: "The Shepherd" we learned that Ruth made a deal with Rumplestiltskin (Robert Carlyle) (pro tip: never a good idea!) to give up one of her sons in exchange for money to support her family. That kid, James, went to the king and queen.
When James died in battle, her other son — the Prince Prince Charming/new James/David (Josh Dallas) we know and love — had to step into his twin’s shoes to slay a dragon and get engaged to King Midas' daughter and do all sorts of other stuff he didn't want to deal with.
OUAT has mostly focused on Charming’s struggles, but E! shared some new Season 2 spoilers about his mom: “Keep an eye on Ruth in the first four episodes. Something is going to happen to her, but we can't say if it's a good thing or a bad thing.”
Oh, that sounds bad. Is Ruth toast? Or maybe there will be some kind of family reunion (perhaps in Storybrooke)? Or just a flashback that further explores her story? What are your thoughts?
Once Upon a Time Season 2 premieres on September 30, 2012 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
