Before Once Upon a Time Season 2, Episode 7: “Child of the Moon,” we were under the impression that Red's (Meghan Ory) mother was dead, since that's what Granny (Beverley Elliott) told her. But in the Episode 7 flashback, Red met a mysterious woman, Anita (Annabeth Gish), who claimed to be her mother.

Of course, not everyone tells the truth about these kinds of things in Fairytale Land. So was Anita really Ruby's long-lost, not-so-dead mom?

It certainly seems that way. She claimed Granny stole Red from her as a child, because Anita believed in embracing and controlling the wolf instead of fearing it, and she taught Red how to do just that. She seemed to offer Red a new home amongst her pack of werewolves.

Unfortunately, based on this pic to the left it looks like Quinn is a little less friendly, as he's attacking Snow White (Ginnifer Goodwin) while Red tries to pull him off. Perhaps he's just being protective, but that still points to plenty of drama and tension.

Unfortunately, this family reunion was not to have a happy ending. Anita was so obsessed with being a wolf that she shunned all normal humans. When Snow White (Ginnifer Goodwin) accidentally led some of the Queen's men to Anita's pack and got one of the members killed, Anita decided to take revenge — a life for a life.

But Red stepped in at the last minute to save snow, and her mother ends up dying as a result. As she explained, Snow is her real family: The one person who accepts her as a human and a wolf.
