On Once Upon a Time, it’s not uncommon for characters to come and go randomly, popping up in sporadic episodes, but it doesn’t mean that we miss some of our favorites any less.
Throughout two seasons of the hit fairy tale show, there are a few stand-out characters who we got to know extensively and then they suddenly disappeared, or who we barely got to know and were left hanging. Since we have a few weeks until the final episodes of Season 2 start airing, we’ve rounded up a handful of people that we’d love to see more of, and as always, we’d love to hear who you miss the most, too!
The not-so-good doctor was featured prominently in Season 1, but as soon as we truly got to know him in Season 2, he disappeared! Sure, we’re a little frightened after his black-and-white Frankenstein brother problems surfaced via flashback, but it only made him that much more intriguing.
Though we hope he won’t be bringing anyone back from the dead in a creepy way (though we wouldn’t object to Graham’s return), it would be great to see how he reacts to Greg Mendell’s identity reveal, Tamara’s presence, and you know, Ruby, who he was going to “start anew” with. We haven’t seen much of her, either, as a matter of fact...
While we’ve come to terms with the fact that Ruby’s portrayer, Meghan Ory, booked a new pilot and may not be back, we’d still love to see her — at least in Storybrooke. Perhaps she and Dr. Whale can stroll back hand-in-hand, ignoring the fact that he created a monster and she’s a wolf. No big deal.
Since her BFF Belle will be featured in Season 2, Episode 19: “Lacey,” it would be the perfect opportunity to see more of Ruby. While the writers whizzed through her backstory, there is still a future for her in “The Land Without Magic.”
Now that the Giant isn’t giant anymore (he’s just “Tiny,” aka Anton, now), he’s been hidden away in Storybrooke. The townsfolk forgave him, he has a lot of knowledge, and we liked his relationship with Emma, so why hide him in the fields planting magic beanstalks? Since the beans are harvesting and could possibly transport everyone home in Season 2, Episode 19: “Lacey,” we’re crossing our fingers that he’ll stick around after, too!
Speaking of Anton’s dwarf friends, where are our favorite dwarves? We love all of them, but mostly are concerned about Dreamy/Grumpy, who found love in a hopeless place with fairy Nova, and then managed to win her over in Storybrooke (as Leroy and Astrid, respectively). However, once that happened, we haven't really seen either of them that much. Yes, they’re all busy harvesting beans and we will likely see him when the show returns from hiatus, but we just want to see Leroy and Astrid’s budding love story! Amy Acker told Wetpaint Entertainment she wants to return, so, basically? Your move, ABC!
The Mad Hatter/Jefferson
After the curse broke, Henry convinced Jefferson to find his daughter, Grace, and their reunion made our hearts soar. While we’re all for a family being happy and running off into the sunset, we miss him. Sure, Emma is tied up with Neal (and possibly Hook when he returns), but we loved their chemistry and The Mad Hatter brought a fun, zany presence to both Fairytale Land and Storybrooke. Plus, considering his beef with Regina, there could be some crazy fights ahead...
Archie and Pongo
Last, but certainly not least, where art thou Archie? Our favorite cricket has been noticeably absent since he was kidnapped, tortured, and thought to be dead, so maybe he’s just resting, but we want to see him back in action. In the recent flashback episode, we saw him walking our favorite TV dog Pongo — who we recently speculated could be secretly human — but that was it. He said a quick hello, had a Groundhog Day-esque repeated walk again throughout the beginning of the curse, and then was gone again. We need someone to be our conscience, we want to see more fabulous ties, and above all else, we want to see his adorable relationship with Pongo more. And hey — if anyone can help Belle remember Rumplestiltskin, it’s Dr. Hopper!
A Few Additional Fan Favorites...
There are so many people to miss, but at least six of them will be returning for sure in the final episodes, hence why they don’t get their own section. First off, there will be a Rumbelle-centric episode when the show returns from hiatus on April 21, so we don’t have to worry about Rumpelstiltskin and Belle. (Well, we have to worry about her never remembering him, but that’s a separately issue.) Plus, we know Captain Hook will be featured during the show’s two-part Neverland-centric finale, and that tortured trio Phillip, Aurora, and Mulan will come back, too. Phew!
