Regina (Lana Parrilla) seemed to be on the road to redemption on Once Upon a Time Season 2, until mommy dearest showed up and dragged her off course. Regina's shift back to the dark side was so swift, some fans have speculated that Cora literally has her under a spell. Is that possible? TVLine has the answer with a new spoiler from the OUAT showrunners.

According to showrunners Eddy Kitsis and Adam Horowitz, Regina really has been won over by her desire for her mother's love.
"We can never forget how important the need to get your mom’s approval and love is," Eddy Kitsis explained, though he also noted that both the audience and Regina are obviously right to be wary of Cora (Barbara Hershey).
While we're disappointed in Regina for teaming up with such an obvious baddy, we will admit that it makes thematic sense. Love is an incredibly important motivator in the OUAT world. If love for a child is enough to set Regina on the path to good, why shouldn't love for her mother — however awful that mother is — pull her off course?
Speaking of going off course, Adam Horowitz also dished another spoiler about Regina: We will see her "unleashed"! That sounds like bad news to us, since the words "Regina unleashed" conjure up images of magical rage. But hey, maybe she'll unleash her powers protecting Henry, or something positive like that.
