After Once Upon a Time goes on hiatus for the holidays, Season 2 will return in 2013 with new episodes and more brand new characters. Two of those characters, both to be played by handsome men, have been teased in more detail.

As we previously reported, Ethan Embry will be joining the cast as a “visitor” to Storybrooke. Now, TVLine reports that Ethan will most likely be playing a character named Bennett, a “mid-30s guy next door type” who is “sweet, charming, intelligent and funny.” But we shouldn’t be fooled by his nice-guy exterior. On the inside, “he possesses a darkness, as well as a willingness to fight to the bitter end for his beliefs … to prove that his way of life is in the right.”

Whoa. We’re seriously perplexed about the phrase “his way of life.” In Storybrooke, there are really only two basic views: Either you’re on the Charming family’s side and believe that good triumphs evil, or you’re on the The Evil Queen’s (Lana Parrilla) side (or at least her old side), and believe dark magic should and can be used. From the spoiler, it sounds like Bennett might be on Team Evil, which is hard to imagine given Ethan’s sweet face. Or is there a different way of life he's looking to preserve?

Meanwhile, SpoilerTV reports that another man will be joining the cast, adding to the hottie trend that Captain Hook (Colin O’Donoghue) got rolling. For Season 2, Episode 12, “the role of Gerhardt is being cast. He’s a handsome, idealistic military man in his late 20s, with a family he loves.”

Gerhardt sounds decidedly less intimidating than Bennet. Considering the “military” background, he seems like a Fairytale Land character to us. But either way, we love a handsome guy who loves his family.

Are you excited for all the new characters?
