One of the Most Influential People in the Nation Was a Teen Mom!

No, this article isn't about Farrah Abraham (we know, so weird). It's about a 50-year-old woman named Wendy Davis who gave birth to her first child at the age of 19. She was a single mom working two jobs just to make ends meet — but she had big dreams and strived to create a better life for her daughter. Now a member of the Texas state Senate (and a graduate of Harvard Law, no less!), Wendy is one of the most successful and inspiring women in the entire country … and her past as a teenage mother didn't hinder her one bit!

Wendy made headlines on June 25 when she began a 13-hour filibuster to block a controversial new law that would essentially abolish all abortion clinics in the state of Texas. Regardless of your views on abortion, the important thing to note is that Wendy stood up for what she believed in (literally — she stood for 13-hours straight without any food, water, or bathroom breaks!) and argued her case before a predominantly male Senate. Not something you see every day.

In the end, Wendy succeeded in blocking the bill, proving that if there's a will, there's a way — regardless of your gender or where you come from.

When we heard this story we immediately thought of our favorite MTV show Teen Mom. The docu-series is often criticized for glamorizing teenage motherhood, but true fans know just how difficult the journey's been for girls like Catelynn Lowell and Jenelle Evans. Each week we watch these ladies go through the emotional ups and downs of young motherhood, all the while rooting for them to create a better life for their children.

So to all the naysayers we say, look at Wendy Davis. She had a child at 19 and now she's a ballbusting Senator. Who knows? Maybe Katie Yeager will be the first female president!
