Orange Is the New Black’s Jessica Pimentel: Season 1 Was Just a “Warm Up” — Exclusive

Orange Is the New Black Season 2 premieres this Friday, June 6, and we could not be more ready to rejoin the ladies of Litchfield for the Netflix hit's second installment. Wetpaint Entertainment recently caught up with Jessica Pimentel (Maria Ruiz) at the OK! Magazine's SO SEXY event in NYC, and she dished that Season 2 is going to take things to the next level and beyond.

"I cannot wait myself for this show to come out, as a fan, because each storyline — the twists, the turns, the excitement!" Jessica gushed. "There were several points in reading the scripts where I had to turn away, take a walk, because I couldn't believe the things that were happening. If you think the first season was intense, it was like a warm up. It was like an introduction to everything that's going to happen. The second season is phenomenal."

This jives with what the rest of the cast has said about the season. It's supposed to be bigger, more shocking, and more complex than ever.

Most notably, Season 2 is supposed to explore the ensemble cast even further, which is great because, as Jessica pointed out to us, this cast really is unlike the rest of TV’s ensembles.

"You can't compare this to any other experience," Jessica told us when asked how working on OITNB compares to other projects she's been part of. "It is something completely unique, completely special, on every level. If you talk about how many actresses were in the show, if you talk about how many Latinas are in the show. If you talk about the age range, the levels of experience, all of these things at once — it's impossible to try to compare this show to any other show out there."

One person Jessica would like to see added to the cast? Rosie O'Donnell!

"We just had Rosie O'Donnell on our red carpet at our premiere," she told us. "I had some opportunities to take pictures. We would love to have Rosie on the show. That would be super, super awesome."

Agreed! But with or without Rosie, this cast, and show, is already something special.
