It’s a little hard to imagine, but could Buffy the Vampire Slayer have featured Orange is the New Black star Natasha Lyonne? That seems to be what she was implying in a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly.

It’s not the first time Natasha has referred to being offered a role in the ‘90s cult classic show. And while it may sound weird and hard to believe now, we think it holds water. After all, back in the ‘90s, Natasha was a much bigger star than Sarah Michelle Gellar. While the latter had an established career, she was most known for her role on soap opera All My Children, whereas Natasha was in critically acclaimed movies like Slums of Beverly Hills and Woody Allen’s Everybody Says I Love You.

Considering the buzz Natasha had in the earlier part of her career, we definitely believe people were throwing scripts at her left and right. However, Natasha turned down “lucrative” roles on WB shows like Buffy in favor of “exploring the messy, unhappy lives of young women.”

Too bad she didn’t have a crystal ball — we think Buffy’s life got plenty messy and unhappy as the series progressed. Plus, we’re not really sure how her role in American Pie fits into that whole scheme, since it’s fellow American Pie/OITNB star Jason Biggs (Larry Bloom) who really corners the messy life market in that particular franchise.

What do you think — could Natasha have made a good Buffy if offered that part or is this parallel universe too crazy to imagine?
