The cast of Orange Is the New Black is currently in the middle of filming Season 3, but because of a quirk in the Academy calendar, some of the stars are also currently being honored for the work they did back in Season 1. The show and its cast has been nominated for 12 Emmys for Season 1, and this weekend Uzo Aduba (Crazy Eyes) took home the prize for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series.
The good news was announced at the Creative Arts Emmys Awards, which were held on Saturday, August 16. Uzo beat out fellow cast members Laverne Cox (Sophia Burset) and Natasha Lyonne (Nicky Nichols) as well as Joan Cusack (Shameless), and Tina Fey and Melissa McCarthy (both for hosting Saturday Night Live).
And the Guest Actress Emmy wasn't the only piece of hardware Orange Is the New Black took home on Saturday. It also won for Outstanding Castings for a Comedy Series (well deserved!) and Outstanding Single-Camera Picture Editing for a Comedy Series.
Clearly, the Academy loves the show as much as we do! Hopefully this means more awards are coming its way during the main event on Monday, August 25. The show is nominated in some big categories, including Outstanding Comedy Series.
