The Originals Acquired By Syfy in the United Kingdom: British Debut in Late Fall 2013

While The Vampire Diaries and its upcoming spinoff The Originals are CW royalty here in the United States, the new show will have a different home in the United Kingdom. NBC Universal’s Syfy network has obtained the rights to the supernatural drama and will debut its epicness to British audiences later this fall.

“With such an established and successful heritage and U.S. network credentials, The Originals is our biggest acquisition since V in 2010,” said Adam Collings, channel director for Syfy U.K. (via The Hollywood Reporter). “Its narrative is edgy and contemporary and has something for fans of The Vampire Diaries and new viewers to the franchise alike.”We definitely agree. If an epic show about vampires in New Orleans isn’t edgy and contemporary, we don’t know what is!

“Syfy is the perfect home for The Originals, and we are certain not only will fans in the U.K. who have made The Vampire Diaries such an enormous hit embrace this new series, but new viewers will as well,” said Jeffrey Schlesinger, president of Warner Bros. Worldwide Television Distribution.

Hopefully British fans are just as excited about The Originals as we are in the U.S.! Maybe it will be our version of Downton Abbey for the Brits? One can only hope!

What do you think about The Originals getting a home in the U.K. too? It’s huge news for the show! Hit the comments and let us know.
