The Originals’ Daniel Gillies: Elijah Will Take Back New Orleans

Elijah fans can rest easy, because the engaging older brother of Klaus is going to be an integral part of The Originals this fall!

At a roundtable interview at the 2013 Comic-Con, actor Daniel Gillies confirmed that his character will be front and center, saying, “So far, I'm in the first few episodes... as many as they've written, I'm in 'em all." Great news! And we’ll especially be seeing a lot of him in the the first episode, which we’ll be seeing from Elijah’s point of view: "Elijah will be interacting with a bunch of characters, and then you'll see him turn a corner, and suddenly we're in a scene from the [backdoor] pilot. You're realizing the behind the scenes [moments] that he had while the pilot was transpiring. It's really neat”.

As far as Elijah’s rocky relationship with his brother Klaus goes, Daniel said, "I think it's going to be the balancing act between navigating his brother away from his own sort of malevolent tendencies, and trying to design a strategy for taking back for their kingdom." Sounds complicated …

But maybe not as complicated as his relationship with the now-human Katherine Pierce! Gillies told reporters that he didn’t want that relationship to be over just yet. ".Now that she's human, she's all the more sexy. Elijah loves humanity. He's in love with humanity. I made that decision for him a long time ago, and I always try and squeeze it into the performances. I love him loving human beings. I think it's one of the most important comments in the show, and I think the more humble she becomes, the more madly in love with her he will fall.” Awesome! We hope Nina makes some appearances on the show.

The handsome actor also alluded to the darker nature of the upcoming show, saying that The Originals is "sort of Games of Thrones-y, but with this Louisiana vampire world," and “To me, Mystic Falls was more about survival, but I feel like in New Orleans, it's more about retaking this empire.” Adding that there will be opportunities for “lots of intrigue in terms of where you can take the characters."

Nice! Thanks for the hints, Daniel. The Vampire Diaries spin-off airs October 3, and we can’t wait to see the Mikaelson family struggle to regain their power in the city of New Orleans.
