The Originals’ Daniel Gillies: Why Elijah Will Be the Best Uncle Ever
With a baby on the way on the new CW show The Originals, things are going to get even more complicated for the vampires, werewolves, and witches who inhabit New Orleans. Daniel Gillies seems to think Elijah will take it all in stride, as he recently told Digital Spy — especially his uncle duties.
Klaus (Joseph Morgan) is headed toward fatherdom now that he’s knocked up werewolf Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin). Daniel says Elijah should be the first person they turn to if they need a babysitter. “He'd be the best,” Daniel said of Uncle Elijah. “If you could choose one person in that universe to be a minder for your kid, who better than Elijah? There's nobody better on that show. If he's looking out for you, that's it. He's got you, he's got your back!"
Tell that to Katherine (Nina Dobrev), his lady left whom he left in Mystic Falls to help his brother in Louisiana. “[T]hey said their goodbyes,” Daniel says of the former couple. “Look, to me that's a question for Warner Bros and The CW and if they can afford to have Nina Dobrev go between two shows! It's probably rather pricey, to be honest with you. I mean, let's be frank about it, and I don't think I'm insulting anybody by saying that. And frankly, I think they'd love crossovers too. The powers that be I'm sure are more than eager to have people cross over and I would love for Elijah to continue a relationship — however staggered and flawed — with Katherine throughout.”
But even if it doesn’t work out with Katherine and Elijah, Daniel admits viewers are very interested in his character’s love life. This surprised him. “People consider him quite sexual which is interesting for me, because I thought he might be a little bit more almost robotic in the beginning,” he admits. “In a weird way, it's kind of appealed to some sort of sensibility which I don't understand whatsoever!"
