Elijah has been a badass vampire for about 1,000 years, so this card fits him perfectly. But he’s also the moral center of his occasionally wayward family. In The Originals backdoor pilot, he told Klaus (Joseph Morgan), “Family is power.” He seems to have lived by that credo for many centuries, even when his siblings were misbehaving.
The sitetarot-lovers.com has the following description of the Strength card: When it’s turned upright, it represents “courage,” “self control, and “the power of love.” Aw, that makes us kind of sad for Katherine (Nina Dobrev), whom he ditched to follow his brother to New Orleans. The card is also associated with “generosity, resolve, and reconciliation.” Elijah is the peacemaker.
The card is very different when reversed. The key traits become “wrongly used authority,” “lack of willpower,” and “feelings of inadequacy.” Hm, that sounds a bit more like Klaus than Elijah, but maybe the older brother has a darker past than we realized. Since The Originals is a spin-off of The Vampire Diaries, we have no doubt we’ll see some different sides of Elijah via flashbacks.
