The TCAs are the magical time of year when we get the scoop on the networks’ new shows. The CW’s new spin-off, The Originals, is a bit different because we know so many of the characters going in. Still, Joseph Morgan had a lot to say about where Klaus’s arc is headed when he spoke to The Examiner.
One of the biggest questions about the new series is how the hybrid will deal with fatherhood. Don’t expect to see Klaus’s baby right away, though. Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin) will be pregnant for a while, and Joseph says, “I think a werewolf pregnancy is the same duration as a regular pregnancy. So he has nine moons to come to terms with the idea.” No rapidly developing fetus here!
While the actor thinks Klaus will be a disciplinarian when the baby comes, he adds, "I would like to think that he would care for the child, although he won't want anyone else to know it because it could be a sign of weakness.”
As for the rest of his family, Klaus has always felt insecure around his half-siblings Elijah (Daniel Gillies) and Rebekah (Claire Holt), says Joseph. Nevertheless, he promises the Originals will band together despite their differences.
Meanwhile, newcomer Cami (Leah Pipes) may continue to have an effect on the hybrid. Joseph says their discussion about the painting was one of his favorite scenes in the pilot. “I don’t know if she’s going to be a romantic interest for him,” he admits, but he liked that she “exposes a little bit of his vulnerability.” Romantic or not, “I think there’s a possibility of a kind of kinship,” says Joseph.
Don’t start calling for Cami’s head yet, Klaroline fans! They’re just art buddies for now.
