The Originals’ Revised Pilot Deletes Fan-Favorite Klaroline Scene

Last night at the 2013 San Diego Comic-Con, a revised version of The Originals backdoor pilot aired. Of course, many fans watched the episode when it aired as Season 4, Episode 20 of The Vampire Diaries, but the updated show had a few new scenes added — and a couple that were cut.

Having seen the revised version, we can tell you that some of the previously unseen footage introduces Davina (Danielle Campbell) — a young witch who will prove very important to the new series. But it wasn’t meeting the 16-year-old spellcaster that has fans upset. Rather, it’s a missing scene that is causing ire on Twitter and Tumbler from TVD fans.

In the, er, original pilot, there were several scenes set in Mystic Falls. We still see Rebekah (Claire Holt) there, stubbornly refusing to help Klaus (Joseph Morgan) with his New Orleans problems. But the parts where Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Damon (Ian Somerhalder) are dealing with an unemotional Elena (Nina Dobrev) are gone.

Also cut is the sweet phone message Klaus leaves Caroline (Candice Accola). He tells her that he’s standing in one of his favorite places in the world, surrounded by food, art, and culture, and all he can think about is how much he wants to show it to her.

It’s understandable that Klaroline fans would miss this particular scene, but it’s not unreasonable to leave it out of the new version of the pilot. After all, the spin-off is about Klaus’s new life in Louisiana. Think about it from the perspective of someone who’s never watched TVD: Why introduce Caroline, when she’s not going to be making a trip to New Orleans right off the bat?

Besides, the new version of the pilot isn’t being broadcast in the fall. Instead, Season 1, Episode 1 will be all-new. The cast is set to start filming it soon.

Still, Julie Plec did tell TV Guide — when asked if there will be more romantic Klaus/Caroline scenes — “Could be. To just shut that off doesn’t seem fair.” And though there’s talk of Caroline getting a new love interest in Season 5 of TVD, there is also the potential for crossovers between the show and its spin-off.

Until, we have YouTube Klaroline clips to replay over and over.
