Orphan Black: What Will Happen Now That Dr. Leekie Is [Spoiler]?
Wow — we were really not expecting that ending at all!
If you caught Orphan Black Season 2, Episode 7: "Knowledge of Causes, and Secret Motion of Things," you know that Dr. Leekie (Matt Frewer) met an untimely end in the last minute of the episode, and by a very unlikely hand — Alison’s (Tatiana Maslany) husband and monitor, Donnie (Kristian Bruun). So what will happen now that Leekie is dead, both to the clones and to Donnie?
Entertainment Weeklyspoke with series creator John Fawcett, both about how the writers came up with the “how” and the “who” of it all, as well as what’s next.
“We knew we were going to [kill Leekie off], we just didn’t know how we were going to do it,” John says. His co-creator, however, made the initial suggestion that Alison’s hapless hubby would be the triggerman. “It’s funny because my initial reaction was, ‘that’s ridiculous,’” John continues. However, because the writers wanted it to happen in a “surprising, sort of strangely comic fashion,” Donnie ended up being the best man for the job.
John didn’t have much to say about what will happen to Donnie, but “the fact that [Leekie]’s gone or missing or presumed dead or whatever — that informs a bunch of story in the coming episodes.” Now that Alison and Donnie both have blood on their hands (one of them more literally than the other), could this help them repair their very damaged relationship. Could the possibly become partners in crime, even?
We hope so, if only because they’re some of the best comic relief this series has to offer.
