Here’s some news that should make you happy: Pharrell Williams is performing at the Oscars! Don’t worry, though. “Blurred Lines” isn’t getting yet another awards show airing. Pharrell’s performing his solo number “Happy,” nominated for an Oscar for Best Original Song.

Pharrell wrote and produced the song for Despicable Me 2 and, despite it being the anthem for a kid’s movie, it’s so lighthearted and joyful, just try listening to it and not dancing along. We dare ya.

The number goes against three other nominations for the Original Song award. Also in the running: “Ordinary Love” from Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, “Let It Go” from Frozen, and “The Moon Song” from Her. There was a fifth nominee — “Alone Yet Not Alone” from the movie of the same name — but the Academy rescinded the nomination last month after discovering inappropriate campaigning by the song’s composer, Bruce Broughton.

But back to Pharrell and his happy song. The 40-year-old entertainer already has seven Grammys to his name, four of which he won during this year’s ceremony, but this is his first nomination for an Academy Award. Hope there’s room on his mantelpiece.

Get happy on Sunday, March 2, when The Oscars air on ABC.
