Butcher someone’s name in front of an international audience during one of the year’s most celebrated events and we’d expect said person to be a touch angry. Idina Menzel, however? She’s letting bygones be bygones with her bud John Travolta.
John, you’ll remember, garbled the acclaimed actress’ name into something resembling Adele Dazeem before the Tony Award winner’s live Oscars performance back on March 2. She sang what ended up being the Academy Award-winning song and Idina’s own personal mantra for the evening, “Let It Go.”
“That threw me for a minute,” the Frozen actress tells Billboard of the blunder, “but then I just got back on track and reminded myself of where I was.” The consummate professional says an embarrassed John personally reached out to her to apologize afterwards.
“He was really gracious and sent this gorgeous email, and we’re buddies and it’s all cool,” Idina says of her fellow entertainer. She also got flowers from John and, though she doesn’t mention it in the Billboard interview, a super cool name generator courtesy of Slate.
“I mean, I’ve only benefited from it,” she says of the whole misstep. Nice job finding a silver lining there, Adele!
