Lindsay Lohan and Paris Hilton: A History of Hollywood’s Greatest Frenemies
Hollywood has its share of stars with interesting friendships and feuds, but no two celebs have been on and off each other's naughty lists more than Lindsay Lohan and Paris Hilton.
With the weekend's news that Lindsay may or may not have been involved with Paris's little bro getting beaten up, we're reminded of the long and storied history between these two. From blonde, wild child besties to archenemies to true frenemies, let's take a look at Paris and Lindsay's troubled relationship.
In the mid-aughts, it seemed like Lindsay and Paris were inseparable. Paris wasn't feeling quite as close to former bestie Nicole Richie after their mysterious falling out in early 2005, and she was totally in the market for a new best friend. Lindsay, one of Paris's party pals, a newly-minted blonde, and also a fan of Hollywood's hottest nightclubs, seemed to be a perfect fit.
May of 2006: The Firecrotch Video
Nobody is quite sure what started the first fight between Paris and Lindsay, but most point back to a May 2006 fight at Hyde Lounge, an LA hotspot popular with Paris, Lindz, and other hard-partying Hollywood celebs.
Speculation over the incident was rampant — some say it was over Lindz name-checking Paris without permission; some say it was over Paris's ex-boyfriend, Greek shipping heir Stavros Niarchos. Paris's rep said that Lindsay just interrupted her and the incident wasn't a big deal. But that was before the Firecrotch Video.
That same weekend, oil heir Brandon Davis, most famous for hitting clubs with Paris, supported Paris's side of the feud with an impressively long rant on-camera. The pullquote? "Lindsay Lohan is a firecrotch. She has freckles coming out of her vagina." Hoo boy.
Watch the video below, but be warned that there's explicit language and some racism involved.
Lindsay told Elle that August that she never watched the video and that she'll "never see it," but she did throw a jab at Paris about her sex tape: "Obviously, she's very comfortable making videos."
In that same interview, Lindsay admitted that the feud hadn't ended there. She started getting prank calls from Brandon and Paris on her voicemail, she said, adding that Paris angrily pulled her aside at a nightclub later, pissed that she'd called Stavros.
For the record, Lindsay tells Elle that Stavros is "not being fought over," adding, "I would never fight with a girl over a guy [...] It's bad karma."
November 2006: Are They Friends Again? Nobody Can Tell.
If you asked Lindsay, she and Paris were getting along just fine by November. But nobody's quite sure.
Paps caught Lindsay on camera on November 9 saying "Paris is a c—t," but immediately afterwards, she says she never said that. "Paris is my friend. I love her." OK, Lindz! Whatever you say.
On November 26, Lindsay told paparazzi that Paris hit her in the arm with a drink at a party. "It hurts, and it's not okay," she said, following with "I'm sorry for that everyone thinks I'm crazy. I'm not; I'm just trying to act."
The next day, Lindsay went and partied with Paris and and her new bestie, Britney Spears, all Mean Girls style, and recanted the previous night's statement to a passing paparazzo: "She's my friend. Everyone lies about everything. She's a nice person."
June 2007: Paris Doesn't Have Any Friends in Rehab
Fresh off her three-week jail sentence, Paris Hilton appeared on Larry King Live to talk about being on "a journey" and other things celebrities talk about when they’re fresh out of jail. When Larry asked about Paris's friends in rehab — Lindsay had checked herself in over memorial day weekend — Paris said "I have no friends in rehab." Ouch.
February 2008: Remember Lindsay and Paris's Musical Careers?
Oh, 2008, when Lindsay and Paris were both trying to make their music careers happen — pre DJ Paris Hilton. The pair both attended a pre-Grammy party with musician/producer Timbaland, the mastermind behind the feel of Justin Timberlake's FutureSex/LoveSound, and weren't too happy about the whole thing.
A source close to the pair said that they both were hoping to work with Timbaland to boost their flatlining music careers.
August 2008: Partying Together Again
At the grand opening of the Apple Lounge — DJ'd by Lindsay's ex-girlfriend Samantha Ronson — Paris and Lindsay were seen getting along just fine.
Paris would confirm the two's reconciliation in a Glamour UK feature a few months later. "We're fine now. I think [Lindsay has] really changed," she admitted. "I saw her a month ago and she was really sweet and seemed really happy and we're all adults now."
2009: Party Buddies
For the next year or so, Paris and Lindsay would run in the same party circles with very little drama between them. They were even both seen leaving a party at Stavros's house at 7 a.m. in November of 2009 with no signs of violence. Good for them!
September 2010: More Than Friends?!
The celebrity rumor mill finally exploded when, after these two kept a low profile for a while, Paris and Lindsay were photographed making out after Lindsay injected herself with something which may or may not have been drugs. Maybe the whole world exploded. We don't know.
Hey, sometimes friends just make out.
May 2011: Paris Slams Lindsay, Immediately Apologizes
Curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal! On Paris's reality show at the time, The World According to Paris, she gave earrings to a homeless woman — apparently the perfect time to pan Lindz. When the woman confused Paris for her #1 frenemy, Paris responded, "If I was Lindsay I'd be stealing the earrings, not giving them away." Ouch!
Amidst legal trouble stemming from theft and DUI convictions, Lindsay let off a lot of steam with Paris's rented beach house in Malibu. The pair apparently partied until the wee hours three days in a row in late July!
That makeout thing hadn't really worn off yet in the tabloids, either, with the National Enquirer claiming that Lindsay had a huge crush on Paris and was flirting with her constantly. We don't know about that, tabs! Seems like there's just a little too much history there.
September 2012: …Or Not.
Lindsay and Paris made it about a year without making headlines, until Lindsay had a minor freakout after running into Paris at Lady Gaga's masked ball at the Guggenheim Museum.
A source told Page Six, "When Lindsay first saw Paris, she just stepped back with these big eyes. She was shaking her head and kept repeating, 'No, no, I can't.'"
When last we left Paris and Lindsay's friendship, things didn't seem great… but they weren't violent, either. But trouble is a-brewin now after Paris's little brother, 24-year-old Barron Hilton, was beaten up at a party in Miami, where Lindsay was in attendance. Sources say that Barron blames Lindsay for the attack, although the person who did the actual face-hitting was identified by TMZ as Ray Lemoine.
Supposedly, LiLo approached little Barron earlier in the evening and yelled, “You talk s—t about me to my boyfriend, this is what you get.”
In response to Barron's Instagram photo, Paris wrote an angry screed. ""They both will pay for what they did," she wrote. "No one f—ks with my family and gets away with it."
For the record, the Barron face-puncher maintains Lindsay's innocence, telling TMZ that Barron started the fight when he refused to leave the party.
