Paris Jackson Caught in Rift Between Her Mom and Brother — Report

The alleged suicide attempt of Michael Jackson’s daughter, Paris Jackson, shocked us this morning. The 15-year-old had apparently been going through some tough times, including battles with depression. It seems like there may have been even more stress going on in her life, though; a source tells E! News that Paris’s desire to rebuild a relationship with her and older brother Prince Michael Jackson’s mother, Debbie Rowe, has caused a “falling out” between the siblings.

Debbie’s relationship with her and Michael’s children is notoriously strained and complex. She gave up her custodial rights to Prince and Paris in 1999 during her and Michael’s divorce, in exchange for $6 million and their Beverly Hills home, then gave up her parental rights completely two years later. In 2005, Debbie admitted she hadn’t seen her children in several years, but tried to get her parental rights back in 2006. Michael’s mother, Katherine Jackson, has been the guardian of Paris and Prince since Michael’s death in 2009.

With a relationship this weird, it’s no wonder that Paris and Prince might have different feelings about repairing their relationship with Debbie — and why the situation might have proved traumatic for them. E!’s source tells them that Prince wanted “nothing to do” with Debbie, but Paris really wanted her mom in her life: “She’s a young girl and having a female mother figure has been something she has desired for as long as she can remember, but it has caused problems in the family.”

Their source added that “Katherine has not been overly happy about it, but she understands that this is what Paris needs.”

Prince, on the other hand, “does not feel a bond with Debbie and feels like it would betray Katherine in some way," says the source.

Prince is not to be confused with Prince Michael Jackson II, or Blanket, who does not share a mother with his two elder siblings.

This, like many Jackson family tales, is turning out to be a tragic one, whether the source is reliable or not. Our thoughts are with them.
