Party Down South Cast Demands More Money? (UPDATE: Cast in the Dark About $7,500 Raise Rumor)

UPDATE (3/1/14): Over at TMZ, they say the Party Down South cast wants a pay bump from $500 to $7,500 per episode — a raise of 1,400 percent that CMT is supposedly hesitant to pay. The cast won't shoot Season 2 until their raises are finalized, sources told the site, so the negotiations will just have to continue. However, the cast doesn’t seem to know what’s going on. RumorFix talked to Lyle, Walt, Ryan and Tiffany and they had no clue about any pay negotiations. They hadn't heard about it, other than from tabloids. Talk to your management team, maybe?

Original story:

The cast of CMT’s new reality show Party Down South is pulling a Jersey Shore. Again.

The Southern show was recently denounced by The Dukes of Hazzard’s Ben Jones as “cultural pornography” and “the most offensive and sleaziest thing ever to make it to a national audience,” which sounds bad but is really more like an ad for the series. It’s the kind of thing people said about Jersey Shore and that turned into a massive hit for MTV. Viewers love a good trainwreck.

On that note, TMZ says the Party Down South cast wants more money and they won’t film more footage until they get it. The show premiered in January and TMZ called it “a runaway hit for CMT.” Episode taping is supposed to resume next month, and the cast is reportedly in talks with a high profile management team to negotiate a new deal.

It may sound greedy to already be asking for more money, but TMZ was told the eight cast members currently only make $500 an episode, and in order to do the show they have to take time off from their real jobs. They supposedly aren’t looking for the six-figures the Jersey Shore cast made by the end, they just want to be a little more comfortable.

PDS is produced by the same people who gave the world Jersey Shore, so The Powers That Be may be amenable to the idea of a reality raise, especially if the cast isn’t asking for anything too exorbitant. It may sound ridiculous to pay people to act like fools, but that’s the bread and butter of reality TV shows like this — from Jersey Shore and the Kardashians to the Real Housewives of Wherever and Here Comes Honey Boo Boo.

Do you watch Party Down South? Do you think the cast should get a few extra bucks, since the producers and CMT must be making good money off their mischief?
