Hunger Games Casting: Broadway Star Patina Miller Joins Mockingjay

Another week, another famous face joining the Hunger Games franchise.

Broadway vet Patina Miller has been cast in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay as Commander Paylor, the leader of the District 8 rebels and — spoiler alert! — the woman who becomes Panem's first peacetime president.

OK, so maybe the 28-year-old is not as famous as previously-announced co-star Julianne Moore, but she is a celeb you'll recognize if you're a theater nerd or a soap opera aficionado.

Patina just won a Tony Award in the category of Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Musical this June for her lead role in the circus-themed revival of Pippin. She was nominated for the same award in 2011 after starring in Sister Act on the Great White Way.

The South Carolina native also had a 31-episode arc on All My Children in 2008.

And here's a fun fact: She was reportedly one of three finalists for the Effie White role in the 2006 silver-screen musical Dreamgirls, ultimately losing to role to Jennifer Hudson, who won won Oscar for the part.

But after all her theatrical accolades and this plum role in the two-part Mockingjay film — the first half of which hits theaters in November 2014 — we doubt she still feels bitter!
