Patrick Dempsey’s Reality TV Miniseries: Racing Le Mans Premieres in August

Patrick Dempsey certainly isn’t wasting a moment during the Grey’s Anatomy hiatus. Before gearing up for Season 10 of the hit medical drama, he’s getting behind the wheel of his race car at 24 Hours of Le Mans in France and filming a four-part miniseries!

The new show isn’t a scripted one — it’s actually reality TV of sorts, chronicling Patrick and his team as he attempts to win the top prize at the race. Patrick Dempsey: Racing Le Mans will premiere on August 28 on the Velocity network and “focus on Dempsey's second attempt at racing the sports-car crown jewel, as well as his lineage among actor-drivers such as James Garner, Paul Newman and Steve McQueen,” according to USA Today.

For Patrick, iconic figures like Steve are a bit of a “shadow” and it’s hard to live up to those expectations, but he’s honored nonetheless. “A lot of our documentary is about McQueen and Newman and their passions for racing, and I think that's what we share, a real love for racing, a real love for this event, and I really want to do well,” he noted. “I'm fortunate enough to be able to do it."

Patrick and his team have overcome a lot of challenges, which just makes Patrick's eye fixed even more firmly on the prize (he came in ninth last year). He understands that he draws a crowd because of his actor status, but he doesn’t let that distract him from the task at hand. Ultimately, he is just a race car driver with a dream, not McDreamy, saying, “To be on the podium would be a dream come true."

Do you think Patrick has what it takes to win the 24 Hours of Le Mans? Will you watch his miniseries? Sound off below!
