The Patriot Actress Skye McCole Bartusiak Found Dead at Age 21 (UPDATE)

UPDATE (10/13/14):

At long last, actress Skye McCole Bartusiak’s family has answers for their daughter’s tragic death. Nearly three months after The Patriot star’s untimely passing, TMZ reports that the cause of death was an accidental mix of painkillers and muscle relaxers.

The site spoke with the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences, who provided that the primary cause was the “combined toxic effects” of hydrocodone (likely something similar to Vicodin), difluoroethane (a colorless gas, often used in huffing), and the muscle relaxer carisoprodol.

Our hearts go out to her family in this difficult time, and hope that this news may finally bring them some peace.

Original story (7/19/14):

We're learning some very sad news, as The Patriot actress Skye McCole Bartusiak has been found dead. She was 21 years old.

TMZ reports that Skye died at her home in Texas on July 18. Fire department officials tell TMZ that they were called out to a garage apartment behind the home and that Skye was dead when they got there.

No cause of death is known yet at the moment. The coroner has reportedly already conducted an autopsy on the body. Meanwhile, Variety reports that Skye is said to have died in her sleep.

Skye is best known for playing Mel Gibson's daughter in the popular 2000 Revolutionary War film The Patriot. Heath Ledger, who died in January 2008 at age 28, played Skye's older brother in the film.

She has had a number of other roles, including in films like Cider House Rules, Don't Say a Word and Riding in Cars With Boys. She had a recurring role on 24 and appeared on House and CSI. Her most recent film was 2012 indie Sick Boy, although she has been producing and starring several short films of late, according to Variety.

Our thoughts are with her family and loved ones during this very difficult time.

Offer your condolences in the comments section.
