Vampire Diaries star Paul Wesley (Stefan) is speaking out about his “deep loathing and disgust” for gun laws in the United States following a scary, gun-related encounter he experienced just last week.

“A seemingly random act of a gun being pulled on me yesterday only compounded my deep loathing and disgust for the gun laws in this country,” Paul tweeted Saturday, not giving any more details concerning the event. We’re glad he’s OK! As is the rest of the Internet. “You guys are very sweet. Thank you,” Paul tweeted later that day in response to the outpouring of love and support on his Twitter page.

This isn’t the first time Paul has expressed frustration concerning American gun laws. Following the Sandy Hook school shooting in 2012, Paul tweeted a similar sentiment: “How many more tragedies must we endure before the archaic gun laws in this country are changed!!? Wake up!!!” Though they did not specifically mention gun policy, TVD co-star and then-wife Torrey DeVitto and Originals star Joseph Morgan had similar reactions to the tragedy…

“Deepest sympathies to the families affected by the Connecticut shooting.  Over 31 school shootings since Columbine. This needs to stop now,” Joseph tweeted.

“Prayers go out to every single person who was affect by what happened today. What the hell is it going to take to start changing things???!” Torrey shared.

Paul seems to feel very passionately about the subject of gun laws in America, and did so even before it affected him in such a personal and visceral way. We wonder if he might take his campaign from Twitter and into a more intentional, organized campaign. (Insert vampire compulsion reference here.)
