It seems that Ian Somerhalder is not the only Salvatore brother who rescues pets and, in the process, melts our hearts. In an interview with Los Angeles Confidential, Paul Wesley tells the story of the kitten he rescued from the side of the road. Could we love this Vampire Diaries star any more after hearing this story?

“I have a cat. It’s funny because I’ve been doing so much work with The Humane Society and everyone [kept] asking me if I had a pet, and I would [say] no,” Paul told the news outlet. “But I was walking home one day at like 2 a.m., and it was freezing — it must have been 20 degrees outside. It was right before this big storm in Atlanta. This little baby, eight-month-old kitten, was nearly frozen under a car. So I took her home. Her name is Cat.”

Um, we’ll pause here for you to properly recreate this image of a vampire saving a freezing kitten. And, if your imagination just isn’t enough, we give you this image of Paul taking Cat for a walk.

Paul recently opened up to The Humane Society of the United States about how growing up with animals nurtured his love for our furry friends: “I grew up with cats and as a child loved our family cats dearly. That’s probably my first real experience of actually loving an animal,” Paul remembered, before reminiscing about the time he spend in Poland with his grandparents as a kid: “Also, one summer in Poland, when I was probably 9 or 10, I was on vacation and several miles down the road a large scary-looking dog was chained up to a farmhouse. One day, I snuck out, brought food, and he and I slowly became friends. For three weeks I spent every day sneaking him food. By the end, he would wait for me and we would hug and wrestle.”

Paul harnesses his love for animals in his activist work protesting against factory farming. He told L.A. Confidential: “I have a sort of specific thing that really infuriates me, which is factory farming. So I am trying to educate the youth about how they can do their best to not support that industry. I think it’s really repulsive. So that’s been my goal working with the Humane Society.” Yep, we love him.

The Vampire Diaries airs Thursday nights at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
