Penny Dreadful Season 1: Synopsis For Episode 2 — “Séance”

Now that you’ve officially been welcomed into the creeptastic world of Penny Dreadful, it’s pretty clear that we’ll see some pretty horrific things this season. After all, tackling some of the world’s classic gothic novels and their characters is pretty harrowing work. The Showtime drama may have introduced you to Dr. Victor Frankenstein (Harry Treadaway) in the premiere, but there’s a fresh (and very handsome) face coming in Season 1, Episode 2 (“Séance”).

According to the synopsis for the episode (airing May 18), Vanessa (Eva Green) and Sir Malcolm (Timothy Dalton) will attend a classy party that quickly takes a spooky turn: hosting a séance. The two will run into a suave young man at the shindig — Dorian Gray (Reeve Carney) — and he will captivate everyone with his charm.

Elsewhere in the episode, Ethan (Josh Hartnett) will find a new friend in Brona Croft (Billie Piper) — though it’s too soon to tell if the warning to not trust anyone should be applied to this young Irish immigrant. Is it just us or are there some real characters in Victorian England?

Check out the full synopsis here:

In pursuit of answers, Vanessa and Sir Malcolm attend a party at Egyptologist Sir Ferdinand Lyle’s (guest star Simon Russell Beale) home where they encounter the mysteriously beautiful Dorian Gray. The party takes a turn, however, when renowned medium Madame Kali (guest star Helen McCrory) hosts a séance. Meanwhile, Ethan befriends Ms. Brona Croft, a young Irish immigrant.
