When The Voice first began, many were likely skeptical. At the time it debuted, American Idol’s popularity had definitely waned, so it seemed questionable to add another show of its ilk to the TV lineup. But with its refreshed concept, including Blind Auditions, celebrity coaches in lieu of celebu-judges, and, later on, the Battle Rounds and Knockouts, it’s definitely earned its place as #1 in the ratings.
Fast forward to last night and it’s no surprise to us that The Voice picked up a People’s Choice Award for Favorite Competition TV Show! Not bad, The Voice… not bad at all.
On top of the big win by The Voice, coach Christina Aguilera snagged a cameo in the undeniably clever opening sequence. Kat Dennings and Beth Behrs of CBS’ hit show, Two Broke Girls, were looking for someone to cover waiting tables for them so they could host the show, and Xtina walked in, wearing that same waitress uniform the girls wear. Despite the hideous mustard color, Christina managed to look super sexy, with legs that seemed to go on for days. When the girls told Xtina that she won’t make a lot of tips, Xtina joked, “I got plenty of tips,” while pointing to her — ahem — bosom. You go, girl!
According to a CBS article, host Carson Daly was texting coach Cee Lo Green during the show.
“Usually, you know. Your publicist calls you,” Carson said. “But none of us knew and I was texting with Cee Lo and said, ‘Did you know we just won a People’s Choice Award?” And he’s like, “Hell no I didn’t know! That’s awesome!”
The Voice had some stiff competition, too, beating out America’s Got Talent, Dancing with the Stars, MasterChef, and The X Factor. Needless to show, The Voice has proved its staying power. We’ll see if it continues to reign supreme in this genre but, if we had to guess, we’d say it will do so for a long, long time.
