The Voice 2013: The Best Performance From the Season 5 Knockout Rounds — Oct. 29, 2013 (VIDEO)
The final night of The Voice 2013 Season 5 knockout rounds saw some Voice favorites being sent packing and others advancing into the live shows. While the contestants’ performances spanned from country to pop, to soul and even reggae, there were a few performances that stuck out to us.
For one, we totally loved the performance between Team Adam vocalists Lina Gaudenzi and Preston Pohl. Preston’s cover of Bob Marley’s “No Woman No Cry” had us swaying in our seats, while Lina totally surprised us with her rendition of Etta James’s “I’d Rather Go Blind”, showcasing her range and soulful spirit.
We were also impressed with Team Cee Lo singers Stephanie Anne Johnson and Tamara Chauniece. While Tamara displayed her powerhouse vocals with a reggae rendition of “No One” by Alicia Keys, Stephanie gave us an acoustic cover of “Don’t Know Why” by Norah Jones and not only displayed her ability to play musical instruments, but her ability to infuse her personality into a song.
However, the battle of the night had to go to Team Christina singers Will Champlin and Matthew Schuler. Coming into the battle, we all expected Xtina to love Matt — after all, she did win him in the blinds. But Will proved that he’s a contender by choosing not another rock ballad, but instead a vulnerable rendition of “When I Was Your Man” by Bruno Mars.
Matthew’s stellar take on the Florence + the Machine tune “Cosmic Love” had us on the edge of our seats, as we watched him sing his lungs out (literally) to earn a spot in the live shows. Though Xtina did choose Matt over Will, Will was stolen by his former coach Adam Levine and advanced to the live shows as well. After that performance, we truly understood that these guys are forces to be reckoned with.
