PETA Slams Bindi Irwin for Partnership with SeaWorld
Bindi Irwin is just 15 years old and already earning hate mail from PETA. Why? Because of her family’s recent partnership with SeaWorld, which is definitely among the animal rights activist group’s top enemies.
PETA’s statement (via E! Online) comes shortly after Bindi, little brother Robert, and their mother Terri appeared on Good Morning America to announce their “Generation Nature” initiative with the marine amusement park. According to the Irwins, the program is “all about encouraging kids to get involved and become game changers for wildlife and wild places.”
That sounds pretty noble to us, but PETA isn’t buying it. “The Irwin family has been exploiting animals for years,” the group’s scathing press release shadily declares, “So it comes as no surprise that Bindi has agreed to become SeaWorld’s latest shill.”
The group further asserts that the involvement of the Irwin family is a “last ditch effort” by the park to smooth over the recent bad press they’ve received. “What millions have realized — through PETA’s massive campaign and the hit documentary Blackfish — is that SeaWorld is no place for anyone who truly cares about animals,” the statement asserts.
Well, regardless of how PETA feels about SeaWorld’s practices, we have to say we’re not so sure that makes it okay to level such heavy criticism at a teenage girl. Why not call out her adult mom instead?
What do you think — is PETA in the wrong for targeting Bindi?
