Though it’s hard to imagine Peter Dinklage as anyone but Game of Thrones’ sharp-tongued Tyrion Lannister, he started his career almost 20 years ago. It took eight years in the business to land his breakout role — starring in SAG-nominated independent film The Station Agent with Michelle Williams, Patricia Clarkson, and Mad Men’s John Slattery — but his hard work paid off.
He’s dabbled in a little bit of everything, ranging from children’s films (Elf, The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian, and Ice Age: Continental Drift), to guest-starring roles on TV shows (short-lived sci-fi drama Threshold and a long arc on Nip/Tuck), to memorable double roles (both versions of Death at a Funeral). Since landing the role of Tyrion in 2011, he’s booked almost a dozen films, including a mysterious villain in the upcoming X-Men: Days of Future Past. Oh, and did we mention he’s won a Golden Globe, a Primetime Emmy, and a Satellite Awards for his work on GoT?
The now-43-year-old actor was born in Morristown, New Jersey with achondroplasia, a common cause of dwarfism, and stands at 4’5”. He lives with wife Erica and daughter Zelig (born 2011) in upstate New York, a far cry from King's Landing.
1. He’s a vegetarian and an advocate for Farm Sanctuary.
2. He has played himself many times — on Entourage, Dinner For Five, and Celebrity Poker Showdown.
