Real Housewives of New Jersey’s Teresa Giudice may be standing by her hubby, Joe, come hell or high water as he prepares for his own legal battle, but apparently that’s not the case for Real Housewives of Atlanta star Phaedra Parks.

As we told you earlier, Apollo was sentenced to eight years in prison and five years parole after reaching a plea deal in his bank fraud and identity theft case. Though Apollo was present in the courtroom for the sentencing — wearing a tan suit and rocking more facial hair than usual — AccessAtlanta.com reports that his reality star wife was nowhere to be seen.

We don’t exactly know why Phaedra was MIA, but we do have some theories. For one thing, we wouldn’t be surprised if she was with her two sons she has with Apollo: Dylan, 1, and Ayden, 4. The boys are too young to fully grasp everything that’s happening, but this will profoundly affect them and their futures as they spend the next eight years of their lives with a dad behind bars.

Another reason why Phaedra wasn’t present at the sentencing could be because she’s trying to distance herself from her husband’s criminal activities. She is a practicing lawyer, and although she apparently wasn’t involved in any of Apollo’s schemes this debacle could color how people view her. She may have also felt that her presence at the hearing would attract additional unwanted attention given her reality star status.

Despite Phaedra’s absence today, Apollo has repeatedly insisted that his wife has stuck by him through these tough times, and just a few months ago Phaedra denied that the couple had plans to divorce. Still, Apollo’s sentencing is just the latest in a series of unfortunate obstacles this duo has had to face. How can we forget the texting drama between Apollo and Kenya Moore that played out on last season of RHoA?

They may still be legally married, but after spending many important holidays apart — including Valentine’s DayMother’s Day, and Father’s Day — it looks like the duo is in desperate need of some more marriage counseling before Apollo heads to prison sometime in the next four to six weeks.

Are you surprised that Phaedra was a no-show at Apollo’s sentencing? Tell us your thoughts and theories below!
