Philip Seymour Hoffman’s Death Won’t Delay Hunger Games Release — Report
We're all continuing to process the fact that Philip Seymour Hoffman is no longer with us. So will his death affect the release of the upcoming Hunger Games films?
Philip, who was found dead in his apartment on Febraury 2, plays Plutarch in last year's smash hit film, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. He was set to appear in the final two films in the series, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 1 and Part 2.
Now, attention turns to how the film's studio, Lionsgate, will handle Philip's tragic loss. A source involved with the film's production reveals that his death will not delay the release of the two remaining films, according to The Wrap. Part 1 will still be released on November 21, 2014, with Part 2 hitting theaters on November 20, 2015.
Philip apparently had seven days of filming left on Mockingjay — Part 2. It's not yet entirely clear how the film will work around his absence.
Lionsgate has released a statement addressing Philip's death. "Philip Seymour Hoffman was a singular talent and one of the most gifted actors of our generation," says a Lionsgate spokesman. "We’re very fortunate that he graced our Hunger Games family. Losing him in his prime is a tragedy, and we send our deepest condolences to Philip’s family."
Meanwhile, a number of Hollywood's biggest stars — including George Clooney, Jim Carrey, Ellen DeGeneres, and Will Ferrell — have shared their reactions to the sad news.
