Philippines Typhoon: Ian Somerhalder Sends Out a Heartfelt Message After Tragedy
Earlier this week, Typhoon Haiyan struck the Philippines, killing 4,460 people, according to the United Nations. It was the second-deadliest Philippine typhoon on record, and other countries are racing to help relief to survivors, thousands of whom are suffering from near-fatal injuries.
Many people, both celebrities and not, have reacted to the tragic typhoon and sending any help they can, and among them is Ian Somerhalder. The Vampire Diaries star tweeted out a heartfelt message today — which is no surprise given the incredible charity work he does with the Ian Somerhalder Foundation and other causes.
“My heart is weeping right now. To all of you in the Philippines, we're coming to help,” he wrote. “The destruction you are enduring has the world with you!”
Though when he says “we,” it doesn’t necessarily mean that he’s coming physically to help, given that he’s busy with the show, but we bet he’s working overtime behind the scenes in Atlanta to send donations and assist in any way possible.
If Ian has inspired you to help the victims of the Philippines typhoon, you can donate to the UN’s World Food Program by texting AID to 2722 or giving online, sending funds to the Red Cross, or texting TYPHOON to 80888 to help via the Salvation Army.
Our thoughts are with the Philippines at this tragic time.
