Phillip Phillips on His Return to American Idol This Week: “I’m Scared To Death!”
Phillip Phillips likes to strike while the iron is hot — like raging fire hot. The Season 11 American Idol winner finished his debut album in only three weeks, and in a recent interview with Billboard.com, the singer said the first single, “Raging Fire,” was produced barely a week before its March 3 release.
"We've been working on this one [album] for a month-and-a-half so far," P-squared told Billboard.com. "It's a completely different album that's going to show a different side of me. We have singles that are completely different from 'Raging Fire.'" It sounds as though the entire album will be happening just as quickly as the single, as Phillip said he and his team are aiming for a mid-May release.
Fans of Phillip are sure to be excited, as the the singer will be returning to American Idol on Thursday, March 6 to perform his hit new song. Yet, despite his whirlwind summer tour opening for John Mayer, the “aw shucks” singer said he’s shaking in his boots about the performance.
"I like seeing all the people that I got to know… It's cool to see all those faces," he said of his upcoming appearance. "But it's also weird for me to get back up onstage and sing, because I hate live television, and I'm gonna be scared to death when I get up there. It's always a little nerve-racking."
As for what we can expect from the debut single, P2 said, “It's a love song, but it's also a little heavier, too. It's got a little bit of an edgier side to it, and I really like that."
Prepare to swoon, ladies!
