Pippa Middleton on Her Bridesmaid Dress, Kate’s Royal Wedding, and Prince George!
It was the white dress seen around the world on the day of Kate Middleton’s wedding to Prince William — and no, we’re not talking about the bride’s Alexander McQueen gown. In fact, most of the attention was on Kate’s younger sister, Pippa!
This Middleton sibling managed to unknowingly steal the spotlight, thanks to her white McQueen bridesmaid dress, and of course, her derrière. “It was completely unexpected,” Pippa says during her Todayvisit with Matt Lauer, which also marked her first-ever television interview.
“You know, I think the plan was not really for it to be a significant dress. Really just to sort of blend in with the [wedding dress] train."
Turns out the McQueen dress, which was designed by Sarah Burton, did more than blend in. It actually catapulted Pippa into stardom, with everyone wanting to know more about this maid of honor.
“I suppose it's flattering,” Pippa adds, yet despite the new attention, she also found it “embarrassing, definitely” because “it wasn’t planned.”
So where is this infamous dress now? “It’s actually still in my wardrobe at home,” Pippa admits. “I haven't worn it since. But I think I'll just keep it there… I think it's the sort of thing that I'm sure I'll bring out if someone wanted to see it or my children one day want to see it. Then I'll show them." Now that’s one royal memento!
Speaking of her sister and brother-in-law’s nuptials, Pippa revealed her family didn’t see it as a “royal” wedding. “It sounds funny to say, but we saw it as just a family wedding. And actually, I didn't realize, perhaps, the scale of it until afterwards,” she says. “We all took on the the roles as any family would.”
Granted, the royal wedding was three years ago, and it seems like a distant, yet cherished memory. Nowadays, there’s a little something new this family is celebrating: the upcoming first birthday (on July 22!) of Kate and William’s son, Prince George!
“He's amazing. He's a very dear boy,” Auntie Pippa adds. “And he's brought a lot of pleasure and fun for all of us, the whole family.”
For a boy whose chubby cheeks we adore, we have to agree and say the little heir has brought a lot of joy to everyone outside of the royal family as well.
