Angelina Jolie Planning to Undergo More Cancer-Preventing Surgery (VIDEO)
Angelina Jolie has already gone under the knife in hopes of ensuring a long, healthy life — opting to have a double mastectomy in May after learning she had a 87 percent risk of developing breast cancer — but the 38-year-old actress tells Entertainment Weekly that her work is not yet done.
"There's still another surgery to have, which I haven't [had] yet," she reveals. "I'll get advice from all these wonderful people who I've been talking to, to get through that next stage."
The Maleficent star doesn't elaborate on the exact nature of that surgery, but she does say that she has 50 percent chance of developing ovarian cancer.
She also discusses how deciding to undergo a mastectomy so publicly — having written a New York Times op-ed on the subject — has connected her with strangers with similar battles.
"Wherever I go, usually I run into women and we talk about health issues, women's issues, breast cancer, ovarian cancer. I've talked to men about their daughters' and wives' health. It makes me feel closer to other people who deal with the same things and have either lost their parents or are considering surgeries or wondering about their children … I was very, very moved by all the support and kindness from so many people."
Here's wishing her a long, healthy, illustrious life!
