New Poll Shows Surprising Number of Couples Don’t Have Sex on Their Wedding Night

Remember when the image everyone would picture on someone’s wedding night would be that fateful crossing of the threshold, with the groom doing his best to carry his new wife in his arms as both giggled with anticipation of what was to come next? Uh, yeah, about that whole “next” part. A new survey posted in the Daily Mail found that, of 2,128 newlyweds polled, only 52 percent actually consummated their marriage on their wedding night.

“What’s the problem?” you might be asking yourself. If you’re drinking a glass of wine (or other alcoholic beverage) as you ponder this, all you have to do is look into your glass for the answer. A quarter of the time, it’s because the groom gets too drunk! Thirteen percent of the time, the bride is too drunk. And one in ten couples argue before the reception even ends, which carries over into the boudoir. In four percent of the cases, the groom fell asleep. Eleven percent said there were children who needed looking after (if there was ever a time to get a babysitter!), while seven percent of couples said they stayed up all night partying with guests. Talk about depressing (okay, maybe not that last excuse isn't so bad, but still)!

George Charles, Marketing Director at Voucher Codes Pro, commissioned the survey and, after seeing the results, he proposed, “It may be that the stress and pressure of organising a wedding takes the main priority, especially considering such a large proportion of couples have been living together for years.” Whatever the reason, he notes that wedding night sex no longer seems to be such a huge priority. After all, it is “til death do you part!"

Did you “do the deed” on your wedding night? Share if you dare!
